Some of our athletes competed in Ulster and Munster Senior Championships this weekend. Callan Byrne had a successful trip to the Munster's in Templemore to win the 100m and 200m. Ciara Deely and Jack Manning headed to the Ulsters. Ciara placed 2nd in the 400 hurdles(1.01.51) and Jack was 3rdin the 400 (49.08).
This was a busy day in Tullamore for the Leinster Pairs and also the under 12 and under 13 championship events. KCH had over forty athletes competing and between them they came home with over thirty Leinster medals - a great haul by any standards. The under 10s were the richest with five sets of pairs between them. Ellen Daly and Kara Canavan had double celebrations with silver in the 60m pairs and the 500m pairs. Our three girls teams brought a busy weekend to a happy conclusion with a set of medasl each. Competing in the Leinster Team event in Drogheda the under 11 and under 15 teams won silver and the under 13 girls won bronze. Congratulations girls.
Aoibhe Richardson made her debut in the VHI Women's Mini Marathon with a fantastic win. With some 30,000 lining up at the start she took to the front and was a clear winner in 34.35. But that wasn't all. Aoibhe's mum, a participant on a number of previous occasions, was also on the road and completed the 10k in 40.23 which placed her third in the over 50 category. And there was more because Aoibhe's sister Grace was also in the race and finished in a highky commendable 41.32. When the dust settled it transpired that Team KCH/aka "Team Richardson" [...]
It was a case of Double Gold for Ciara Deely today. Competing in the Leinster Senior track and field championships in Tullamore she won both the 400m (57.50) and the 400 hurldles (1.02.56). Congratulations.
KCH had six athletes competing in the Schools All-Ireland in Tullamore today. All acquitted themselves well with Shay McEvoy, St Kierans, winning silver in 1500 (3.54.81) and Annie McEvoy, Loreto,winning bronze in 3000 (10.35.38). Tara McGuire, Presentation, placed 8th in Shot (9.39). Tom Lodge, St Kierans, was 4th in Junior 1500 (4.22.49). Jennifer Leahy, Loreto, was 7th in senior high jump (1.55) and Rory McGabhann, Kilkenny College, was 4th in High Jump (1.85).
Day 4 of the County Track and Field Championships marked a significant achievement for the club. Fot a number of years our F4L ladies dabbled in the championships but not in significant numbers. This year was different thanks to Kate Millea and Declan Walshe who motivated the F4L athletes and also Pat Purcell who trained the Cto5. With the enthusiasm generated by these groups some twenty plus Harriers took part. Oh to be in Leixlip when the Harriers are running the relays!!. Another great day for our juveniles. A very busy day for club officials With 22 teams competing KCH had 16 teams qualifying for the 4x100m Relay finals. Eight of them won medals and the other eight were not very far away. There was gold for Under 10 boys, Under 11 boys, Under 12 girls, Under 14 boys and Under 15 girls. Our under 9 girls got the winning under way with silver. It was silver also for the under 11 girls - lost out on gold by 1/100th [...]
Two of our athletes - one senior, one juvenile - reported good results today. Senior, Cliodhna Manning, guesting with St Abbans ac at the European Club Championships in Tampere in Finland garnered nine points for the team with a win in the 400m in 54.33. Juvenile, Alex Cullen, was our sole representative at the Leinster Combined Events in Greystones. Hitting PBs in four of his five events (75m hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot) he won the U14 silver.
KCH juvenile athletes continued their winning way on Day 3 of the county t&f championships in Scanlon Park tonight. With high points achieved over the first two days and many more tonight the Juvenile Track and Field stays with KCH for another year. There were some excellent results by the boys and girls u8,9,10 and 11. Then came the hurdles where KCH were dominant. Later we had the 1500s where again our older juveniles were superb.
