Shay McEvoy had a good outcome from his participation in the American Athletic Conference held in Tampa Florida at the weekend. He placed 7th in the heats of the 15000m on Friday with a time of 3.51.46. Running n the final on Sunday he showed a marked improvement to finish second in 3.43.56.
The weather stayed fine for the long day of competition in Scanlon Park for Day 1 of the county track and field championships. There were big numbers competing and KCH enjoyed many successes across both juvenile and senior events with the result that KCH have established a healthy lead in the points for the shields. David FitzGerald, Mayor, held a civic reception in The Town Hall this evening in honour of KCH celebrating it's 70th birthday. There were speeches by the mayor, Pat FitzPatrick, chairman county council, John Maye, chairman KCH, and Nicholas Dunphy, 70th committee. The function was attended by athletes (past and present - including olympians Emily Maher and Eileen O'Keeffe), parents, coaches and a number of public officials. Certificates in recognition of long and dedicated service to athletics were presented by the mayor to May Hutt and Sean Lynch. Refreshments were served and Vicki Comerford did the photos.
