Another great performance from our long serving distance runner Brian Maher. Competing today in Santry Demense he turned on the style in the British and Irish International cross-country. Now in the O/45 category he took the gold in 26.05 to lead the Irish team to victory. First in his own age group and second overall - Well done and major congratulations. Jamie Gavin was also in action competing in the O/40s where he finished 9th (34th overall) in 27.44. Well done.

Nov 11 Shay Leads Them In

2022-11-12T17:50:28+00:00

The MidWest Regionals were held in Missouri today. Tulsa University were keen to impress and backed by three Irish athletes - Dalton, Power and McEvoy- that is what they did. And most impressive of all was our own Shay McEvoy who led the college team home and placing third overall and with team members in 4th, 5th and 6th it looked good. The final result had to await all five to finish as Tulsa tied with Oklahoma on 49 points each. Tulsa were declared winners when all five team members were compared with their opposite numbers. Very close but a [...]

Nov 06 Leinsters in Mountainview

2022-11-08T11:22:35+00:00

Mountainview proved an excellent venue for the Leinster Senior and Uneven ages cross country. And the weather was equally excellent. Our athletes did well to bring home 36 Leinster medals. There were 11 individual medals, twelve club medals and 13 with county teams. The first championship race was the U11 girls. Kate Kelly claimed her medal with a 10th place finish. Other team members were Ellen Ryan, Mealla Crowley, Vivienne Lepeskaite and Hannah O'Brien. The team was 12th. The boys were 7th club with Darragh O'Callaghan very much to the fore to claim individual bronze and a gold with the [...]

Oct 23 Leinster Cross Country Dundalk

2022-10-24T12:14:44+01:00

Dundalk was the venue for this year's even age juvenile, junior and novice cross country championships. All looked well at the start but as the mild rain turned to torrents and the grass disappeared everything and everyone turned brown with mud - a virtual mud bath! no just mud field. that beinf said it was the same for all but in fairness it was the later races that were "worst" affected.  KCH athletes were prominent winning 14 county medals. Under 12 girls Amelia O'Brien 15, Emma Kelly 23 and Hannah Ryan 40 won bronze medal with the county team and [...]

Oct 10-16 Distance Running and Travelling

2022-11-22T15:27:15+00:00

A lot of running by club members this weekend - some at home - some further afield. First up is a fab run by Claire Dermody who ran the marathon in Chicago in 3.08.12 - a fine time indeed.  Then it was the turn of the "students" in the states. On Friday Shay McEvoy placed 14th in the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational. Running for Tulsa University he covered the 8K cross country race in 23.26. Then on Saturday Peter Lynch ran in the Weis-Crockett Invitational in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The distance was 8K and in a large field Peter placed third in [...]

Oct 09 Day 2 CC in Castlecomer

2022-10-12T15:41:21+01:00

And so we moved from a "summer's day" in Ballycurran to what some would say a real cross-country day in Castlecomer. The rain was heavy and the wind was strong but no muck until the cars started moving for home. Our juveniles made little of the weather - perhaps the club tent helped. Grace Healy and Kimberly Walsh were medal winners in girls under 7 and Lucy Maher having been third in U8 now claimed 4th in U9. Boys U9 had Daniel McIntyre 2nd, James Healy 5th, Cillian Maher 6th and Conor Quinn 8th. Moving to the championship races our [...]
