2022 Results

A good turnout from our juvenile athletes brought good results from the St Senan's Open Cross-Country today. The weather was more like "track weather" with blazing sun and calm conditions all contributing to an enjoyable event. The club had three gold medal finishers with Daniel McIntyre, Kate Kelly and Kyrell Mtinsi. There were team silver medals for the three teams that fielded - Boys U12, Girls U12 and Boys U14. Some great performances by athletes under KCH colours in today's festival of races around Kilkenny. This was particularly obvious in the half marathon with Graham Bourne and Paul Moran scoring second and third respectivel. Their respective times were 1.21.39 and 1.22.48. Andrew Smith was 5th in 1.24.08 and Diarmuid Cullen 8th in 1.26.27. Other finishers were Oisin O Cinneide, Jan Hazenberg and Breegen Murphy. In the 10K   Gretta Beckett finished in 53.49, Martin Dowling 55.08 and Bridget Rochford in 1.01.45. Jackie Varley did the 30K in 3.28.39.   

While it might appear from the report on the National League final that KCH are short of "distance" runners the opposite is in fact the case. The distance people have been active all year with athletes like Cathal O'Reilly, Eoin Everard, Brian Maher etc scoring in national and international events. Then we had Graham Bourne turning in a mighty performance to place 6th (2.52.03) in the Viking Waterford marathon in June. More recently it has been the half marathons that have stirred the sweat. Molly Daly competed in the AAAs in Bedford today, her first venture on the international stage and we expect it won't be her last. Molly competing in the 200m under 15  won her heat but a lane infringement kept her out of the final. An unfortunate start to an international career but an experience which will stand to her in the years ahead. Go Molly. 

Aoibhe Richardson had an excellent run in the annual Asics Falmouth 10K Road Race today to finish 5th in 39.33.

Well done KCH men in today's National League final. Round one was tough, Round two was tough and today's final in Tullamore was also tough. National finals are always tough, especially when the aim is to finish in the top three, thereby having each team member come home with an All-Ireland medal. This was especially true of todays event when a mere eight club members answered the call (some clubs had upwards of twenty members on their teams) and one of those a very recent joiner. Congratulations to James Ledingham on winning gold, double gold at that, in today's Masters track and field championships in Tullamore. James competing in M35 won gold in the 800m in 2.08,42 and in the 1500m in 4.15.00. Andrew Fleury won bronze in the M40 200m (25.95) and Paul Phelan also had bronze in the 400m (1.00.06) M50. well done men

Round 2 of the National League took place today spread over two venues - Carlow and Athlone. KCH were in Carlow and despite the closeness to a home venue we appear to have had difficulty getting a full squad to participate. However all is not lost as thanks to juveniles Liam Thompson, William Nugent and Alex Cullen, guests Shane Power and Jordan Knight (both St Joseph's) and not least the club chairman, John Maye, KCH finished up second team in Carlow. Cathal O'Reilly had a good run in the Junior 5000m at the AAI Games in Tullamore today. Clocking 14.55.14 for the event he took the gold. Well done. Cliodhna Manning had a competitive run in the 400m to take second in 53.06. Jack Manning with sixth in his 400m heat exited the competition in 49.20. Aaron Barron continuing his return to form won heat 3 with a PB of 51.22. James Ledingham finished 10th in his 1500m in 4.07.08. Good to see a number of our athletes competing in The Games.
