Juvenile competition moved up a step this weekend with the U9, 10 and 11 pairs and U12/13 individual championships.

UNDER 9 – Seven of our U9s got their taste of Leinster competition today. Cian McIntyre and Jonah Cleere made a serious mark in the long jump with Cian placing 1st and Jonah 4th. Their respective achievements were 3.43 and 3.18. Lauren Millea and Maebh Brennan also did well in the long jump. Cian and Jonah also impressed in the 60m sprint clocking under 11 seconds as did Amenze Victor. Also in the sprint were Lauren Millea and Dara Walsh. In the Turbo throw Amenze threw 4.50 while Maebh threw 7.50. John Kelly ran the 300m in 1.02.56. Cian and Jonah doubled up in the pairs and placed first in the 60m and second in the long jump.

UNDER 10 – Ten athletes represented the club in this age group. Tops in the long jump were Jane Byrne 3rd (3.32), Aed Norry 7th (3.35) and Harry Healy 13th (3.00). Others doing well were Isabelle Hoyne, Lucy Maher and Adam Walsh. Ethan Waters with 10.12 seconds was our fastest in the 60m sprint. Not far behind were Jane Byrne, Aed Norry, Aiden Bruton, Eddie Kemple, and Ethan Maher. Ethan Waters and Harry Healy competed in the Turbo throw where Harry threw 12.23. Eddie Kemple ran the 500m in 1.40.o9 and Isabelle Hoyne 1.55.18. The Pair of Aed Norry and Harry Healy won bronze in the long jump.

UNDER 11 – KCH had sixteen athletes in this age category. Five did the 600. Best were Daniel Quinn (1.55.90) and Cillian Maher (1.59.39). Just over the the 2 minutes were Isaac Burns, Charlie Norris, and Daniel McIntyre. Eight – Isaac, Cillian, Daniel McIntyre, Aoibhin Behan, Maya Balcer, Caoimhe MaloneDaire Sweeney and Finley VonVolkengoed – all did the long jump with Daniel McIntyre finishing 6th with 3.64. Nine competed in the Turbo Throw – Maya, Caoimhe, Finley, Emma Walsh, Conor Lawerence Delaney, Daniel Quinn, Donnagh McCabe, James Healy and Charlie Norris – the latter throwing 15.73 to place 8th. Six went in the 60m sprint with top performer being Conor with 9.78 seconds. Other scorers were Aoibhin, Daire, Donnagh, James and Emma Walsh. Two sets of pairs won medals – Daniel Quinn and Cillian Maher won bronze in the 600m and Daniel partnered Charlie Norris to win bronze again in the Turbo Javelin Pairs.

UNDER 12 – We had twenty-two athletes entered in this age cohort. Best in the high jump were Caelan Bambrick 5th (1.15 tie) and Isabel Hogan 7th (1.20). The Shot Putt brought three medals. Bronze for Caelan (7.23), Silver for Bella Quaglia (8.01) and Bronze for Teagin Mtinsi (7.47).  Kate Byrne was 6th n Shot. We had nine taking part in the 600m where three of the girls qualified for the final. They did well in the final – Kate Kelly 3rd (1.49.06), Julia Daly 5th (1.51.27) and Ella O’Flaherty 14th (2.03.44). In the boys race Eoin Hoyne was 11th having had 1.55.23 in the semi-final. Thirteen competed in the sprint with six getting through to the semi-finals. The six with their best time on the day were Madeline Kemple 9.50, Emilie Waters 9.47, Ellen Ryan 9.26, Bella Quaglia 9.38, Caelan Bambrick 9.35, Cathal Comerford 9.05. 

UNDER 13 – Seven stalwarts competed at u13 level. Conor Knox was in fine form winning the Shot with a throw of 10.15 and finishing 5th in the 80m final. Willow O’Neill Maher had 6.77 for the Shot and 12.95 in the 80m. Emma Millea ran the 600m in 2.20.08. Daniel Green was busy. With 1.40.03 he won Silver in the 600 –  losing out to the winner in 1.40.02 – how close. Daniel was 7th in the 80m final having qualified through heats and semi-final (11.54). Aoibhin Kelly won silver in 80m final (11.09). Vivienne Lepeskaite and Marcus Lyons exited at semi-final stage with respective best times of 11.83 and 11.62.

Conor, Daniel and Marcus won silver with the boys county Kilkenny 4x100m  U13 relay team.

Aoibhin, Vivienne and Ellen Ryan (U12) also won silver the the girls county Kilkenny 4x100m U13 relay team.

OTHER – We had four stalwarts in the Women’s Mini Marathon. Three Richardsons – Maebh, Grace and Niamh – and Annie McEvoy. Maebh 3rd in 35.02, Grace 4th in 35.25, Annie in 38.58 and Niamh in 42.55. Well done ladies. Great to see Annie back in action.

Three others were in Cork for the marathon  – Alan Mahon did the full marathon in 3.32.05 while Ciaran Hughes and Andy Hanrahan did the half. Their respective times were 1.42.25 and 1.35.26.

Over in Stockholm Alan Mitchell also had a marathon which he finished in 3.51.42.
