It was dull, overcast and cold weather conditions that greeted the large contingent of club members and the their families on this our first visit to the athletic track at The Hub in Enniscorthy. While the weather might be considered a negative for the latter half of May our athletes produced many positives. There were thrills and spills – very little spills actually and what there were could be overlooked given the committment and overall performances of all our relay teams. Our under 9 girls got us of to a good start when they qualified for the final. Next up our under 9 boys, after a considerable time on the track awaiting the off, had their heat rescheduled when another team arrived on the scene. It didn’t matter much. they won their heat and running excellently in the final they were rewarded with silver medals. And so the day continued with practically all our teams qualifying for their respective finals. Four teams placed first in the finals – Under 10 boys, Under 11 girls, Under 13 boys and Under 14 girls. For the Under 10 boys and Under 14 girls there was added joy as in winning their respective races they set new championship records. The “unlucky” squads – finishing in fourth place – were Girls Under 10 and Boys Under 14. A special mention is due to the under 13 boys who fielded two teams and getting through to the final by both teams. Well done all and thanks to the parents for their support of atheltes and coaches.
