The Leinster Juvenile Even Ages CC Championships were held in Gowran today. The venue organised and prepared by Gowran AC was a credit to the club – Parking, Administration, Catering, Results. The weather, thankfully, was ideal. Yesterday’s rain left little lakes and heavy under foot conditions to add to the atltetes’ workload. A number of our under 10s – Sinead Cormack, Kara Canavan, Ellen Cormack, Thomas Hayes, Ryan Farrell, Shay Molloy – took advantage of the open race to gain valuable experience. The under 12 girls were 9th club led home by Ruth Crowley. The other team members were Clodagh O’Callaghan, who scored on the county team, Kate Maher, Eimear Cormack, Martha Bergin and Evelyn McEvoy. The boys under 12 had two fine runners in Robert Lacey 42nd and Luke Browne 50th – both scored on the county team. The Boys under 14 were 10th club. The ever improving Ruairi McEvoy finished in 19th place. Other team members were Patrick Lacey, Louie Raggett, Sean Young and Eoin O’Callaghan. Eleanor Godden was our sole representative in the girls under 16. She had a good run and placed 40th. The under 16 boys worked hard. Tom Lodge finishing 6th made the Leinster team for the nationals and also won silver with the county team. The club team finished 4th with Tom, Luke Dunne, Eoin Deely, Robbie Cord and Joe Kearns. Our most successful group of the day were the under 18s/Junior men. Cathal Kearney was a triple medal winner – 9th place got him on the Leinster panel and bronze with the county under 18 team. John Muldowney 13th and Dylan McLaughin 29th also scored on the county U18 team. Kevin Burns was the star of the juniors. He moved towards the front in the early stages of the 6K race and held his place to finish 6th and lead the club to third place. The three U18s were the other members of the junior team – Cathal 15th, John 21st and Dylan 41st. Kevin, Cathal and John also scored on the county team which finished 4th. Thanks to all parents and family members who gave support around the course. Special thanks to Noel Maher who had the tent erected for the early arrivers.
