Another hot day in Tullamore and with it came more hot results for KCH athletes. Top of the joy was the continuing success of the under 14 girls – Amelie Foley,Ella Delahunty, Abbie O’Brien, Orla Kenny and Blaithin Holden – 1st place in the relay final. Not far behind were the fleetfooted under 13 boys – Brian Moore, Danny Ring, Alex Cullen, Sean Young and Ruairin McEvoy – silver in their 4x100m final. July 1 – The Young Ones Enjoy Tullamore Finals

Our next generation of athletes enjoyed their day in the sun as they competed in the national juvenile finals in a very warm Tullamore stadium. Our oldest athletes in action today were under 13 boys Alex Cullen and Adam Slawinski. Both performed well and establised new PBs. Alex in the long jump, jumped 4.73m and won bronze. Adam, in the high jump cleared 1.45m and also won bronze. Two great prospects for the future. Our under 10s really excelled. June 30 – Ciara is Junior Champion

Tullamore resembled a bake oven today for the national junior and under 23 championships. Ciara Deely was not influenced by it as she won her heat and final to take the national 400m title. Tom O’Keeffe was also in excellent form to tackle the 5000m in that searing heat. Running well he placed third in 15.21.93. Juveniles making their debut at this level were Shay McEvoy in the 1500m and James Kearney in the 3000m steeplechase. June 24 A – On the Road at The Pink Rock

The Men ruled the roost at The county 10K at the Pink Rock today. the team took first place with James Ledingham and Trust Mtinsi in first and third places respectively. Paul Moran and Mossy Roantree in 11th and 12th completed the team scoring. A further team of Marcus FitzSimons, Pat Purcell, Keith Doyle and Eddie O’Keeffe also impressed. Cathy Millett was first lady home in the over 50 category. She and Marie Cormack were our only female representatives.

It was an under-strength team which made its way to the first round of the national league at the Mary Peters Track in Belfast. A total of seven men competed for us in the Premier Division. Jack Manning was in big demand covering the 400m, Discus, 56lbs and 4x100m relay. Brendan Hyland made an excellent mark with victories in the Shot and Javelin. Callan Byrne covered the 100m and 200m. June 16/17 – Juveniles in Tullamore

There were many great performances by our juvenile athletes at a sundrenched Leinster track and field championships in Tullamore. Topping the list was under 13 athlete Alex Cullen with gold in 60m hurdles and long jump. Further double golds were achieved by Jennifer Leahy in 300 hurdles and the high jump and also by JamesKearney who addedthe 3000m steeplechase to his 3km victories. June 10 – The Little South Run

Brian Maher returned to the scene of former victory for the Little South Run. From the start he pushed on and in 20.10 he was first across the finish line. Victory in the County Novoce Road Race, run as part of The Little South Run went to relative newcomer, Graham Bourne. Well done you two for keeping KCH colours to the fore.

June 9 – Leinster Under 12 & 13 Championships

We had three boys, Brian Moore, Ruairi McEvoy and Sean Young, competing in the 80m under 13. Brian and Sean qualified out of the heats and Brian won silver in the final. His time was 10.96. Brian also placed fith in the 600m where his time was 1.45.28. Blaithin Holden ran the under 12 80m in 11.84 which qualified her for the semi-final but she failed to make it to the final in what was a very competive event. In the 600m under 12 Hannah Quinn clocked 2.03.27 in the girls race while Jamie Cummins had a time of 2.00.14 in [...]
