June 9 – Mighty Pairs in Tullamore

At the Leinster Pairs competition in Tullamore, there were some mighty performances from our under 9, 10 and 11 boys and girls. There was double gold, in 60m sprint and long jump, for under 9 pair of Tom Henderson and Robert Cullen. Ryan Farrell and Conor Henderson also did well in the 60m but struck bronze medals with great runs in the 300m. Kara Canavan and Ellen Daly were also in fine form. June 4 – Bank Holiday Teams in the Medals

Bank Holiday on the Tullamore track was all about teams. And for KCH it was Team gold, Team silver and Team bronze. On the track and in the field events our athletes performed enthusiastically and with ability resulting in many podium appearances. Some computer glitches meant there had to be recounts to get the accurate results. It can seem a complicated event to newcomers but it is an enjoyable and rewarding event. June 3 – Toss Takes The Heat

Saturday’s heat turned the Tullamore track into a sweltering cauldron. However the heat did not impede senior athlete, Toss Hayes, as he made little of the 5000m challenge. Coming home in first place in 15.13.02 he had some thirty-seven seconds to spare over the silver medalist, James Kelly, Castlecomer A.C.

Today club mates became rivals as they swapped the KCH singlet for there secondary school singlets for the All Ireland Schools Outdoors Championships in Tullamore. James Kearney took on the Senior Boys 3000m steeplechase finishing in 7th place in 6.44.71, Ciara Deely ran the senior girls 400m finishing 2nd in a time of 54.33, Shay McEvoy and Adam Fitzpatrick club and schoolmates took on the senior boys 1500m Shay was 4th home in 4.04.43 and Adam 7th home in 4.08.9, Lauran Gleeson 6th in the senior girls 100m in 12.35.

June 1 – Day 4 of County T&F

Day 4, the final day of the County Track and Field Championships, took place in Scanlon Park tonight. Day 4 is reserved for junior, senior and master athletes (excepting the juvenile hammer events). But for some F4L members our representation would be practically non existant. Joya Burns was very active competing successfully in a number of events – Likewise Greg Holden and Edwin Harpur. Conor Bolger had a good run to take first place in the 5000m O/35. Conor, with the afore mentioned Greg and Edwin plus Graham Bourne made the 4×400 relay team and won second place. Competing in the AAI Games in Santry Ciara Deely scored another PB when she clocked 54.68 in the 400m. We look forward to her taking part in the World Juniors in Tampere, Finland. The competition runs from July 10 to July 15.

A number of our junior athletes posted significant times at todays Milers Club event in Belfast. Times as follows:- 800m – Adam FitzPatrick 1.55.35, Rory Lodge 1.56.51. 1500m – James Kearney 4.19.72. Mile – Kevin Burns 4.42.67. 3000m – Shay McEvoy 8.36.46, Luke Whelan 9.39.25.

The weather once again proved good for Day 3 of the county track and field. Our athletes also proved good with medals being won in all ages from Robert Cullen, silver in 200m under 9 to Karen Nugent, revisiting her former juvenile speciality – the javelin, who took home silver in the senior event. Top performer on the day was Rory McGabahnn with wins in junior 400 and high jump. It was good to see Daire Murray back in competition with a win in the 1500m under 16. Congratulations to Cliodhna Manning on her victory in the 400m in Loughborough today. Her time of 54 seconds was 1.28 seconds faster than the second finisher Catherine McManus.
