2018 Results

It was dull, overcast and cold weather conditions that greeted the large contingent of club members and the their families on this our first visit to the athletic track at The Hub in Enniscorthy. While the weather might be considered a negative for the latter half of May our athletes produced many positives. There were thrills and spills – very little spills actually and what there were could be overlooked given the committment and overall performances of all our relay teams. Scanlon Park, Loughboy, was the venue for this years Leinster Combined Events championships. This is an event which allows an athlete to experience without too much pressure a variety of activities. Alex Cullen was our sole medal winner. Competing in the under 13 event he placed second. Sena Young was fourth and Adam Slawinski was 6th. For the girls Blaithin Holden was 9th and Caoimhe O’Connor 14th. Three of our under 14 girls took part – Abbie O’Brien 5th and Orla Kenny and Katelyn Hennessy. Tara McGuire was 4th under 15. Scanlon Park was the venue for this year’s Leinster Combined Events. A number of our younger members tasted this event for the first time and were quite successful. Included in this category were under 13 athletes Blaithin Holden, Caoimhe O’Connor, Adam Slawinski (6th) and Sean Young (4th). Alex Cullen showed his bit of previous experience with a silver medal result. In the under 14 category we had Orla Kenny, Katelyn Hennessyand Abbie O’Brien. The latter finished 5th. Tara McGuire, competing at under 15 level, had an excellent competition where she finished fourth. Well done you multi eventers.

There were some excellent performances by a number of our athletes at the Leinster Schools track and field finals held in Santry this week. Standing out on its own was Ciara Deely’s victory in the senior 400m. And not just because of the win but the time she achieved 54.99 gives her the qualifying time for the world juniors next July. Other Loreto students to show well were Becky Shannon, 3rd in Intermediate Pole Vault; Annie O’Connor and Ella Richardson both fourth place finishers in 800m and 1500m respectively. Day 2 of the county track & field championships, in matters of weather and results, proved another day in the sun for our athletes. The weather was good – the results even better. From our under 8s, Jasmine Timmons McEneaney and Michael Ormond both of whom had double silver, to our Ladies O/30 and the many athletes in between the club had a great day. As on Day 1 there were a number of double gold including Mathias Quaglia, Louis Raggett, Harry Boyle and Amelie Foley. At an athletic event in the Tallaght stadium tonight four young athletes wrote a bit of history when they set a new record for the Junior Ladies 4x400m relay. theirtime was 3.44.38. Congratulations and well done to all on the team, especially to KCH team member Ciara Deely.

Our ladies did us all proud at the Leinster Novice and Masters Road Races in a sun-drenched road in Gowran today. Outstanding performers were our O/50s ladies team. Individual first and third places by Niamh Richardson and Cathy Millett respectively. In combination with Irene Henebry and Dympna Kelly, they were first club and first county. The ladies O/35 were not far behind in their achievements. Donna Dowling won individual silver and herself and Barbara Rossiter were early scorers on the county team which placed second. What a change the weather makes. The sun shone gloriously and the long winter was forgotten. A large number of our younger athletes performed brilliantly. There were many great individual performances and some lively competition in the relays – the competition not least between a number of KCH teams in various races. From our youngest medal winners -( Jasmine Timmons, Amelie O’Brien, Michael Ormond, Darragh O’Callaghan, all under 8s) – to our sole Senior medal winner – (Ciara Murphy ) – there were some marvellous results. A strong wind today on the back straight at the Waterford RSC hampered those athletes going for a PB at this tonlegaoithe meet. Nevertheless KCH athletes Ciara Deely and Lauren Gleeson had good times in their respective events. Ciara clocked 55.14 in the 400m while Lauren had 12.28 in the 100m.
