Oct 15 Tulsa Men Do It Again

2021-10-18T10:20:10+01:00

The Tulsa Hurricanes were in action today at the Nuttycombe Invitational in Wisconsin. This year's team had a very significant Irish flavour. Along with KCH duo Peter Lynch and Shay McEvoy they have Michael Power, Waterford and Cormac Dalton, Mullingar. Following a sluggish start they found themselves in 22nd place (over 30 colleges participating) after 2000m. They showed great determination and fitness to push on and make their mark to finish in third place with Peter making 23rd place and Shay 43rd. Next outing is likely the Conference in Tampa Florida on 29th October.

2021-10-11T20:40:54+01:00

Day 2 of the County CC Championships took place in Castlecomer today. It was a good day. The weather was good. The turnout in most ages was good. The running was good and the results were good. Six sets of medals - three gold, one silver, two bronze - and twenty-two of our juveniles qualify on county teams for the Leinster Uneven ages cross-country on 6th November.  Under 7 - Johnny Kelly finishing 6th was our first medal winner. Then followed a host of under 9's - 2 Kate Kelly, 4 Ella O'Flaherty, 7 Hannah O'Brien, 12 Malla Crowley, 17 [...]

Oct 03 Cross Country in Ballycurran +Marathons

2021-10-18T10:54:54+01:00

A soft field greeted the athletes arriving in Ballycurran Cross today for the first round of the cross country championships. The ground might be soft but the competition was tough. The club had two girls in the opening under 8 race. Rachel Fahy placed 6th and Caoimhe Malone was 12th.  Then it was into the championship proper with the under 10s. The girls did well and won the silver medals (4 Aoibhinn Kelly, 7 EllaO'Flaherty, 8 Malla Cronin, 11 Aoibhinn Lacey). Dara O'Callaghan was our sole representative in the boys race. This he did in fine style by cruising to [...]

They also took second place with Emmett Murphy, Paddy Gibbs and Aidan Nolan. And they also had a competitive group in Dara Foley, Jack O'Neill and Darragh O'Callaghan coming 4th. Sept 19 StSenan’s Open CC

2021-09-26T17:30:03+01:00

A small contingent from the club represented us in the St Senan's Open CC in Kilmacow today. They were small in number, small in age and small in stature but they represented the club in no small way. The under 9 girls were exemplary from start to finish with Kate Kelly 1st, Julia Daly 2nd, Hannah O'Brien 5th and Ella O'Flaherty 7th. The under 12s were also in top form with Daire O'Flaherty placing 5th, Tommy Hayes 13th and Shay Molloy 18th. Emma Kelly was 16th in the girls race. Well done.

Today was Masters Day in the Morton stadium in Santry. Three athletes from the club competed and did so effectively. Paul Phelan, coming home under the minute, won bronze in the 400m (M50) in 59.98. Karen Nugent had fourth place in the javelin throwing 16.56 (M50).

Aug 28 Co 10K Road Championships

2021-08-31T07:23:36+01:00

"Where have all the flowers gone?" Where have all the athletes gone! We have had low turnouts in the past but today ranks among the lowest. Just three athletes representing the club in a County Championship- one female, two males. But there was good talent on view. From the Fit4life came Siobhan McArdle showing good running to be the first lady home in 42.51. A somewhat rejuvenated Eamon O'Connor was sixth in 36.29 and an ever competitive Paul Moran finished 10th in 37.52, well ahead of many much younger athletes. Well done ye three.

Aug 21 – Final Day in Tullamore

2021-08-22T11:43:10+01:00

The third weekend of national juvenile track and field finals was held in Tullamore today. The weather was wet and miseable for the last two weekends and it is probably true to say that in addition to thunder and lightning more rain fell in Tullamore today as the heavens opened and for a time competition had to be suspended. Fair dues then to our athletes for their performances. Ellen Daly was first in action in 60m sprint. Finishing second in her heat she qualified for the final where she placed fifth in 8.90 seconds. With little time to recover she [...]

Aug 14 Cathal Makes It Three

2021-08-19T12:51:16+01:00

It was another wet day in Tullamore for the second weekend of the national juveniles. Once again it proved successful for our athletes. With just five athletes involved this time three of them came home with medals. For one, Cathal O'Reilly U19, it was his third of the championships. Having already won gold in the 3000m and silver in the 3000m steeplechase he completed the "hat-trick" with bronze in the shorter 1500m (4.04.90). Alex Cullen U16 won bronze in the 100m hurdles (15.09) and Conor Byrne U17 had a PB in the 400m winning bronze in 52.62.  Ruth Crowley U14 placed [...]
