KCH had four athletes at the national junior and U23 in Tullamore today - three junior and one U23. Hannah Kehoe was the star of the juniors with gold in the 1500m (4.37.15). Alex Cullen was 6th in long jump with a jump of 6.00m. Billy Coogan won silver in the 3000m steeplechase in 9.24.88. Shay McEvoy finished strongly in the U23 5000m to take first place in 4.37.15.
Our U12s &U13s were in action in Tullamore today in the All-Ireland finals. Both groups did well. In action for the U12s were Aoibhinn Kelly 4th in 60m with a PB of 9.00 minutes. Vivienne Lepeskaite also ran well in the 60m clocking 9.62. Conor Knox had Shot and Turbo Javelin. Throwing well he won bronze in the Shot (9.64) and placed 5th in Turbo (25.11). The U13s had four competing in the individuals events. Six PAIRS had qualified from the Leinsters and all six were in action in Tullamore for the Nationals today and did very well with most of the athletes competing in their first All-Ireland final. Under 9s - Aed Norry and Harry Healy competed in Turbo Javelin scoring 20.55m. Under 10s had two pairs - Charlie Norris and Daniel Quinn in Long jump -6.80m and Daniel McIntyre and Cillian Maher in 500m -3.32.11. This year's National League commenced with a Preliminary Round held today in Santry. In the Men's Club section the KCH team was one of eighteen participating. Team manager, Jack Manning, introduced a number of young men to the event and was rewarded with good results as the team finished in eight place. KCH had three athletes on the Leinster teams competing in the Tailteann Games Schools Interprovincial held in Carlow today. All three proved worthy of their selection and contributed strongly to the success of the Leinster teams. Pia Langton won the 800m in 2.13.70 and also ran a leg of the 4x300m relay which came 2nd. Molly Daly was 2nd in 300m hurdles in 43.58 and Louie Raggett had a PB of 6.14 when he placed 2nd in the long jump.
The 2022 Leinster Star Awards were presented to the awardees during the Juvenile Track and Field Championships in Tullamore. KCH athletes Molly Daly and Adam Slawinski got the Kilkenny Juvenile Awards. Both were recognised by Leinster Athletics for their outstanding performances in 2022 - Molly in 80m, 200m and 250m hurdles and Adam in 100m and 200m. Congratulations to the athletes and their coaches.
Extremes of weather - from sunburst to thunderblast - greeted athletes and all at the Leinster juvenile track and field championships in Tullamore. Medals, PBs and Championship Records were achieved. Apart from the new records the athletes returned 26 individual medals - 12 gold, 7 silver and 7 bronze. Under 12s - Conor Knox added a bronze in the Turbo Javelin to add to earlier success in the shot. Aoibhinn Kelly and Marcus Lyons jumped well and finished 9th in their respective long jumps. Fine weather and a relaxed atmosphere combined to provide a very enjoyable evening of athletics at the County B's track and field in Thomastown this evening. KCH had athletes competing in all ages from U8 to U15. Over seventy medals were won by these young athletes with star performances from first time competitor Under 12 athlete Aoibhe Arslan. Aoibhe won 80m, 800m and Long Jump. A very enjoyable athletics day for our young athletes in Tullamore today for the Leinster Multievents. Noah Gilmore competed in Junior Penthatlon and won gold with 2,564 points. Six of our under 13s, two girls and four boys, competed in the Tri event - Long Jump, Shot and 200m. Alicja Swanski placed fifth on 1056 points which was helped by a long jump clearance of 4.04m. Jasmine Timmons McEneaney was fourth. Her best event was the 200m which she ran in 28.73. Our boys, Daithi Egan, Killian Croke, Fiach Crowley and Daire O'Flaherty, finished 7th, 8th, 11th and 12th respectively. [...]
There was golden sun in Tullamore for the U12s and U13s Leinster championships today. And a golden medal for Aoibhin Kelly in the final of the U12 60m (8.84). Conor Knox won silver in the shot(8.87) and placed 9th in the high jump. Others staring for our U12s were Emma Millea in 600m, Marcus Lyons in 60m and Vivienne Lepeskaite in 60m.
