The Biofreeze Irish Runner 10 mile was held in the Phoenix Park today. Just two KCH took part. Ger Forde placed 6th with a fine run giving him a time of 51.31. Jill Kavanagh also ran well to finish in 1.20.02. Well done
The national Combined Events were held in Carlow today in conjunction with the national Masters. Competing in the Masters O/35 was Graham Bourne. Graham won silver in Heavy Hammer, Steeplechase, 400 Hurdles and also in the Pentathlon where he competed in Discus, Javelin, Long Jump, 200m and 1500m where he accumulated a points total to 1983. We had three juveniles competing in under 15 Pentathlon- Mia Brennan, Kelly Charters and Fiach Crowley - finishing respectively in 2nd, 5th and 6th. This year's Schools International was held in Derby, England. Three members of KCH were on the Irish Team - Matias Quaglia, Ellen Daly and Kate Maher. Unfortunately for Matias he was unable to compete owing to injury. Ellen and Kate had a great competition. Ellen was 6th in the 200m and also ran in the 4x100 relay where she won a bronze medal. Kate ran the 300m and placed 5th. She also was part of the 4x300m relay which placed second. Well done girls.
What a busy time! Cork City Sports is barely over and it's off to Santry on Friday night for the Morton Games. For Pia Langton it's her third race inside a week so clocking 2.09.40 for the 800 is no mean achievement. Cliodhna Manning continued her good season performances with a sub 53 seconds (52.94) for the 400. Then it's off to Tullamore for Day 3 of the national juveniles. Cathal O'Reilly and Pia Langton were our representatives at tonight's Cork City Sports. Cathal went in the mile where he clocked 4.09.21. Probably a good result considering his excellent victory in the U23 1500m a mere four days previously. Pia was also on the track on 5th Jul in the U20 where she simply ran in a 400m heat. Fresh then to Cork and came away with a PB of 2.06.00 for the 800m. Congratulations.
There was an amount of action during the last few days - Dundrum 10K, Clontarf half-marathon on the road and then track and field with the national league in Tullamore. Dundrum 10K - Some thirteen members took on the 10K with must achieving PBs - Colm Smyth 34.56, Derek Aylward 39.24, Rory Conlon 39.29, Nuala FitzGibbon 39.45, Alan Mitchell 39.58, David Wilson 40.19, David Devine 41.15, Grainne Behan 42.34, Lenka Taborska 43.05. Twas a windy day in Tullamore today for the U20 & U23 nationals. But there was nothing "windy" about the performance. 200m Molly Daly and Kate Maher with good runs in their respective heats pushed on the the final where Molly won silver (24.16) and Kate placed 4th (25.09). 400m Pia Langton stepped down to take a run in the 400. she was 3rd in her heat in 58.91. - Alex Cullen ran the 400 heat in 49.43 and then won silver in the final in 48.36. 1500m Cathal O'Reilly and Hannah Kehoe both competed in U23. Day 1 & 2 of the national juveniles took place in Tullamore this weekend with plenty of action and plenty of rain. There were good results across all the ages for KCH. In the U14s Daniel Greene won bronze in the 800 (2.13.26). Conor Knox was busy finishing with 3rd in Discus (31.90), 4th in long jump (4.82) and 6th in high jump (1.40). The U15s were the most involved with six athletes competing. There were exciting results from two European venues today. In Maribor, Slovenia, the Irish team competed in the Division 2 of the European Team championships where they finished in 5th place. The 4x400 mixed relay with Cliodhna Manning running on the team were 2nd in their heat and 4th overall helping on the points table. Meanwhile the younger athletes were in action in the Junior Gala in Mannheim, Germany with outstanding results. Pia Langton took first in the 800 in 2.07.55. At the Kilcock 5K on Friday evening Mike Cullen had a new PB of 17.21 for the distance. Also running well were Eamon O'Connor 16.24, Orla McPhillips 19.04 and Sarah Corcoran 22.29. At the Crusaders IMC in Morton stadium Cathal O'Reilly took first place in the 1500A with new PB of 3.43.37. Ruairi McEvoy running in the 1500B had a PB of 3.54.42. Myles Hewlettt competed in the 1500A and finished in 3.54.11. Callum Barron placed 5th in the 5000 and clocked 14.59.81 for another PB. Well done all.
