Another busy weekend for our young athletes. It started with the County Walks on Friday evening where Cillian Maher continued his race walk development with first place  in the U14 Walk. RELAYS Saturday then it was on to Carlow for the Leinster Relays. The younger age groups had multiple teams and faced serious competition from across the province. The club had fewer podium appearances than had been the norm in the past. However with the younger ones coming along the future looks good. May 31 Leinster U12/13 Championships

The bulk of the U12 and U13 Leinster track and field championships were held in Tullamore today in conjunction with the Leinster Pairs. Great results for Conor Laurence Delaney and Aaron Tyrrell with gold in high jump and 600m respectively. The events held and results were as follows:- 600m - U12 Eddie Kemple 11th; U13 Aaron Tyrell 1st (1.43.18), Danel Quinn 11th. A number of our "younger athletes" got exposure to some development experiences at the PAIRS championships in Tullamore today. The under 9s in action were as follows :- 300m - 12th Feidhelm Norry and Matthew Healy. Betty Carroll ran the distance in 59.92. In the 60m sprints Hannah Murphy and Ruby Foster were 12th; Betty Carroll and Maeve Buckley were 16th. Hazel O'Gorman and Matthew Healy ran as individuals. May 29/30 All-Ireland Schools

The All-Ireland Schools track and field championships were held in Tullamore. A number of KCH athletes represented their schools with distinction. Borris College had outstanding athletes in Daniel Greene and Thomas Murphy. Daniel took first place in the Minor 800 (2.7.00) while it was also gold for Thomas in the Senior 2000m steeplechase (6.09.35). Victor Lamph, Intermediate,  starred for Clongowes with silver in 400 hurdles (58.00) and bronze in 400 (50.20). Suddenly it was summer. At last fine weather for two days made for an enjoyable weekend on the track in Carlow for the U20/U23/Senior/ Masters Leinster track and field. KCH had eighteen athletes competing ranging in age from youngest Ellen Daly U17 to our oldest Noel Murphy O/65. Between them they won over twenty medals with the Masters Women and Men scoring in multiple events. Our athletes did themselves, their schools and the club proud when competing in the recent South Leinster Schools and Leinster Schools Championships. With little track action this weekend a few club members travelled in different directions to test themselves on the road. Among those are the following:- Stoneyford 10K - 1. James Ledingham 33.24; 4 Paddy Kelly 35.41; Shea Roddy 38.10; Trevor Charters andSean O'Hargain. Stonetford 5K - Among the finishers were Mealla Crowley, Harry Healy, Conor Laurence Delaney, Eva Ledingham and James Healy. Thomas Jarzabeck (Fastlane 10K - 38.57 PB); National 5K:-Will Fox 16.06, Ger Forde 16.52, Leanne Butler19.27; Jill Kavanagh 22.31. And one omitted heretofore Claire Dowling(Toronto Marathon -sub 4 and PB).

Day 2 of the County Kilkenny Track and Field Championships proved another successful day for the club. There were over 80 individual medals won by club members - over thirty being gold and twelve relay teams won medals - five taking first place. Special mention for the U14 boys whose relay teams came  first, second and third. Two U16 athletes claimed three gold medals on the day - Jack O'Neill in Long jump, triple jump and javelin and Kelly Charters in 100m, high jump and shot. Wednesday night was a night of celebration in honour of Peter Lynch's outstanding performance in The London City Marathon where he finished in 9th place- set a new Irish Record of 2.06.8 - was the first European across the finish line. The event co-hosted by KCH and Kilkenny County Council was held in The Set Theatre, Langton's and was chaired by Nicholas Dunphy, chairperson, KCH. Mary Hilda Kavanagh, Cathaoirleach, Kilkenny Co Council, delivered a comprehensive account of Peter's journey while congratulating him on this massive achievement.
