Saturday’s heat turned the Tullamore track into a sweltering cauldron. However the heat did not impede senior athlete, Toss Hayes, as he made little of the 5000m challenge. Coming home in first place in 15.13.02 he had some thirty-seven seconds to spare over the silver medalist, James Kelly, Castlecomer A.C.
Today club mates became rivals as they swapped the KCH singlet for there secondary school singlets for the All Ireland Schools Outdoors Championships in Tullamore. James Kearney took on the Senior Boys 3000m steeplechase finishing in 7th place in 6.44.71, Ciara Deely ran the senior girls 400m finishing 2nd in a time of 54.33, Shay McEvoy and Adam Fitzpatrick club and schoolmates took on the senior boys 1500m Shay was 4th home in 4.04.43 and Adam 7th home in 4.08.9, Lauran Gleeson 6th in the senior girls 100m in 12.35.
Day 4, the final day of the County Track and Field Championships, took place in Scanlon Park tonight. Day 4 is reserved for junior, senior and master athletes (excepting the juvenile hammer events). But for some F4L members our representation would be practically non existant. Joya Burns was very active competing successfully in a number of events – Likewise Greg Holden and Edwin Harpur. Conor Bolger had a good run to take first place in the 5000m O/35. Conor, with the afore mentioned Greg and Edwin plus Graham Bourne made the 4×400 relay team and won second place. Well done ye [...]
