It was a night of celebrations in the Set Theatre at Langon's as the young and not so young from the club came together to acknowledge the achievements of our athletes during 2018. Vice Chairman Brian Leahy welcomed everyone to the Set, congratulated all the athletes and thanked the coaches and club officials for their dedication throughout the year. He also thanked parents and families of athletes for their valuable support. Our sponsors were also thanked for their generosity. The citations were delivered by club coach, Sean Lynch while the presentations were made through Competition Secretary, May Hutt. Following the [...]
It was a long day at the Leinster Indoors today. It was a 7.30am start but with a full bus heading for Abbottstown the mood was high. Coming home was another story. The snow delayed everyone and with the lunches long since eaten hunger pangs dulled the enjoyment of success on the track. And success there was. Twenty teams represented the club and we have to be proud of every one of them. Full marks for every team - It didn't matter if a team seemed destined not to advance to the final as every team member pushed hard on every [...]
This was National Conference Indoor weekend in the USA. Our two scholarship students excelled. Peter Lynch, Tulsa University, competed on both days in Bermingham, Alabama. He ran in the 5000 0n Friday and the 3000 on Saturday with PBs in both - 14.35.12 for the 5K and 8.27.84 for the 3K. Aoibhe Richardson, Portland, was in action in the 3000 in Seattle. Her time of 9.21 was also a PB. Congrats to both.
The fog in Tullaroan today dominated proceedings at the Juvenile Relays and Intermediate Championships. But it didn't take from the enjoyment experienced by our young athletes. A lot of the credit goes to Noel Maher who was out early and had the tent insitu to welcome the arrivals. The tent provided a mini-creche for babies in buggies as the mammies competed in the Intermediate race. And there were many in the young age groups - four teams in some of the relays. First off was the open under 8 where some athletes had their first cross country experience and wore [...]
The National Senior Indoors were held in Abbottstown this weekend. KCH had five athletes involved in the competition. Eoin Everard, having comfortably qualified in Saturday's semi-final, was set for Sunday's final. A hitch with the lap counter left him with a major difficulty going into the final lap. Finishing strongly in 3.55.79 he placed second. Greater attention to the lap counter might have seen him closer to the 3.48.58 he posted at the Athlone International on Wednesday. Best of our sprinters was Callan Byrne who finished 6th in the 60m semi-final in 7.05. Ciara Deely, despite being second in her [...]
It was Valentine's Day in Armagh ( and everyplace else) today but it wasn't quite St Valentine that was on the minds of those lining u Well done men.p for the 5 mile international road race. Among those on the start line were KCH duo Brian Maher and Toss Hayes. The crossed the finish line with Brian in 41st place on 14.27 and Toss in 45th on 14.29.
Competition on Day 2 of the Leinster Indoors was equally as competitive as yesterdays Day 1. So medalwise coming home with seven medals today was a fine achievement. But it wasn't just the medal winners. There were many many excellent performances which will give both experience and confidence as the season progresses. The hurdles brought four medals with under 12 athlete Ruth Crowley starting the run with a silver. Dany Ring got silver under 14. And then Rachel Leahy won bronze under 16 followed by Jennifer Leahy with another silver under 18. Just outside medals in the sprint hurdles were [...]
